Now if you are going to win any battle you have to do one thing. You have to make the mind run the body. Never let the body tell the mind what to do. The body will always give up. It is always tired in the morning, noon, and night. But the body is never tired if the mind is not tired.

The First Time I Started Using a Computer

MS DOS

The first time I started using a computer was when I enrolled at Smith College in 1994. They had a computer room that was half Macs and half WIndows. It was the first time I had a computer available to me whenever I wanted. We still used Unix for email and actual floppy disks. My son will probably never know what those are.

The Best Musical Performance I’ve Attended

prodigy-d-290510-001bw

Prodigy in Detroit in late 90s. I was in the mosh pit and had the time of my life. The best part was that I lost my wallet, and it was actually returned to me, intact. Oh, the good old days. The hard part—getting home. I was supposed to use a payphone to call my dad to come get me. I found out the hard way that none of the payphones in downtown Detroit were operational. I hopped on a random bus hoping it would bring me closer to home. Got off and called my dad from Southfield Mall.
I would love to see the Prodigy again. They really know how to put on a show.

Tonomoshia

As women, we often nurture and care for others while neglecting our own well-being. Tonomoshia is a secret stash that is just for you. It's money you don't have to be accountable for, money you don't have to share, money nobody knows about but you. It is of particular importance for women in abusive relationships, but I think all women should have it. One woman I know refers to it as f&%k you money and her mom calls it F-U money. Charles Givens recommended this kind of stash a long time ago in his book, "Wealth Without Risk" when he advocated an account he called an "independence account" or "freedom account". The goal was $10,000 you would never touch. It would allow you to always know that you had money in the bank, the pyschological effect of which cannot be overestimated. The feeling of having money in the bank can make you more confident in other parts of your life. It's very freeing. No one owns you and you know you can depend on yourself, if need be. Start building your independence. Depend on yourself. You will always be there.
